
Survivors include spouse, Rebecca Anne (Becky) Campbell Smeltzer and their children: daughter Elizabeth Anne Smeltzer and Roderick William Campbell of Grand Cayman, son Dr. Jonathan Harvey Smeltzer and wife Kari Suzanne Smeltzer of Knoxville, TN, and daughter Rebekah Kaye Smeltzer and her fiancé, Josh Thomas Staley of Austin, TX; granddaughters Caroline Campbell Smeltzer and Mary Kathryn Smeltzer of Knoxville.
Harvey graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN, and the University of Tennessee. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Harvey was the music hall coordinator of the University of Tennessee School of Music between 1974 and 1994. During that time, he was also the technical director for Knoxville Opera, and a member and president emeritus of IATSE Local 197. He was a member of Fountain City Lions Club, where he also served as president. He was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason and former past master of Fountain City Lodge No. 757 F. & A. M. He and his wife joined Central Baptist Church of Fountain City in 1981 where he served as a deacon and led a class of Royal Ambassadors and Challengers.
The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14th, at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of life at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Ron Mouser officiating. A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Jeff Cockerham, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15th, at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of 3rd Floor Central and the ICU of Physicians Regional Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Central Baptist Church of Fountain City.
