2017. Adán was born in La Feria on March 2, 1930 to Ricardo
García and Petra Hernandez Gonzales. He grew up in La
Feria, and in 1956, had the very good fortune to marry his
sweetheart, Irene de la Luz Aguilar Arenas, of Nuevo León,
MX. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2013. Adán and
Irene were blessed with five children; Adán Jr. (Sheila) of
Ann Arbor, Michigan, Norma of La Feria, Gilberto (Ester) of
Kalamazoo, Michigan, Graciela, who died in infancy, and
Noé, of La Feria.
Adán worked at various jobs, but mostly as a farmworker,
from his youth until he reached retirement age. For many
years his wife and children worked at his side, pooling
their incomes to meet the family's needs. He built his home
on Avenue C with his own hands, and welcomed all visitors
with kindness and generosity.
Adán loved football, and was a fan of the Texans, the
Oilers, and the La Feria Lions. He liked to visit with his
friends and trade stories. After their retirement, Adán and
Irene enjoyed following the telenovelas and listening to
ranchera music. He watched Austin City Limits every
Saturday.
He would help his friends and family whenever he learned
they had a need.
In addition to his children, Adán is survived by eleven
grandchildren; Elizabeth (Faissal) Sleiman of Mountain View
CA, Adán Christopher (Elizabeth) García of Frankenmuth,
MI, Graciela, Jackie and Adam García, of Kalamazoo, MI,
Ariel (Esteven) Juarez, of Kalamazoo, Nicholas Abeyta, of La
Feria, and Noemi, Noé Jr., Noelia, and Noelani García of
La Feria. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren,
and many nieces and nephews.
Adán's surviving siblings are Eva Menchaca of La Feria,
Tomás Gonzales, of Harlingen, Esmeralda Acosta, of La
Feria, Juan García of La Feria and Pontiac Michigan,
Adelaida Vento, of La Feria, Lionila, of Pontiac, Michigan,
Daniel García of California, and Ricardo García, of
Michigan. Antonio Gonzales predeceased his brother.
Visitation took place on Sunday, January 29. Christian
burial was on Monday, the thirtieth, at Heavenly Grace.
Adán's children gratefully acknowledge the outpouring of
love and support from friends and family at this difficult
time.
