HARLINGEN/BROWNSVILLE — Amparo T. Flores, 90, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Golden Palms in Harlingen. A lifelong resident of Brownsville, she spent the last sixteen years in Harlingen.
Mrs. Flores loved serving her community. She attended Los Amigos Del Valle, where she graciously volunteered in many roles. She proudly represented the center and was crowned Queen on September 5, 2022. Even during her final year at Golden Palms while recovering from hip surgery, she found joy in community events and was voted Valentine’s Queen. Everyone who met Mrs. Flores knew her as a social butterfly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cruz Flores; her mother, Lucia Sanchez; and three siblings, Mario Torres, Celia Torres, and Alfonso Torres.
Left to eternally treasure her memory are her children: Arturo (Lisa) Garza of Houston; Cris (+Jane) Garza of Brownsville; Ester (Ruben) Zepeda of Tomball; Alicia (Juan) Galvan of Los Fresnos; Yolanda (Manuel) Placencia of Houston; Mario Flores; Irma Flores; Armando Flores of Houston; and Sonia (James) Hilsenbeck of Harlingen; two brothers, Ricardo Torres from Houston and Daniel Torres from California; along with 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Hilsenbeck, Kevin Hilsenbeck, Mario Placencia, Michael Placencia, Isaiah Flores, and Jeremiah R. Garza.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Golden Palms for their excellent, compassionate care and to Dr. Gogia for her remarkable dedication to Mrs. Flores’s well-being.
A visitation will be held at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 26873 N. White Ranch Road, La Feria, Texas, 78559, on November 10, 2025, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
A procession will follow on the same day from 3:00 pm to 3:35 pm to continue with a visitation at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista & Buena Vista Burial Park, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas, 78521, on November 10, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary commencing at 7:00 pm.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:00 am on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E Jefferson St, Brownsville, TX 78520. Christian burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville, Texas, 78526, on November 11, 2025, at approximately 11:00 am.
Services are under the guidance of Heavenly Grace Funeral Home & Crematory and Heavenly Grace Memorial Park. A Dignity Memorial provider. Services are under the direction of Daniel Roberto Gomez and Julissa Maldonado, FD.
