Angelita C. Aguilera, 71, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona. Originally from Bluetown, Texas, Angelita spent much of her early life traveling with her parents and siblings as a migrant worker. Together, they traveled to several states, primarily California, where they worked in various fields and warehouses. Those years shaped Angelita’s strong work ethic, resilience, and deep appreciation for family.
It was during those years of traveling and working that Angelita met the love of her life, Roberto Aguilera. The two went on to share 41 wonderful years of marriage, building a life and a home together in Phoenix, Arizona, where they eventually settled and where Angelita spent the remainder of her life.
Angelita was a loving and welcoming person who found great joy in being surrounded by family. She especially loved when relatives came to visit, always welcoming them into her home with open arms and, of course, a delicious homemade meal. Her home was a place where family could gather, share stories, laugh, and feel loved.
One of the roles Angelita held closest to her heart was that of being a Madrina. She was a godmother to many, and she took great pride in each of her godchildren, or ahijados. Throughout her life, she had the honor of standing beside many of them during some of the most important milestones of their lives, including baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, quinceañeras, weddings, and other special family celebrations. Being a Madrina was much more than a title to Angelita—it was a commitment to love, guide, support, and be present for those she considered her own. She cherished each of her ahijados and the special bond she shared with them.
Angelita also enjoyed her trips to the casino and the excitement of gambling. In her more recent months, she found comfort in the simple moments at home with her husband. She enjoyed making daily phone calls to family back home, talking to her playful dogs, and spending quiet time completing puzzles. These everyday moments brought her happiness and allowed her to remain close to the people and things she loved most.
Angelita will be deeply missed by her husband, Roberto Aguilera; her children, Cassandra Ortiz (Jeffrey) and Roberto Aguilera Jr.; and her grandson, Jeffrey Jr. She is also survived by her siblings, Irene Morado (Jorge), Domingo Cantu, Maria Heredia, and Gilberto Cantu (Sylvia), as well as her sister-in-law, Armandina Cantu, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, her many ahijados, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo B. Cantu and Felicitas R. Cantu; and her siblings, Jose Guadalupe Cantu (Hortencia) and Eminencio Cantu.
Angelita leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, family, perseverance, and the warmth of a home where everyone was welcomed. She will be remembered not only as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, but also as a devoted Madrina whose heart extended to so many. Her love, generosity, and the special place she made for others in her life will continue through the many people who were fortunate enough to call her Madrina.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, especially in the family and many ahijados she cherished so deeply.
