Barbara Ann Hamilton

Barbara Ann Hamilton, 76, of Harlingen, Texas, left us peacefully on January 7, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Barbara is survived by her husband, Sherwood Hamilton, her daughters Sharon Gonzalez (Abel) and Joanne Galvan (Omar), as well as two grandsons Nathaniel Gonzalez and Jack Galvan. She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Agnes Wilde and her brother Ray Wilde.

Born on February 2, 1948, in Harlingen, Texas, Barbara grew up in Lyford and spent her whole life in South Texas. Barbara's career started at the General Telephone Company in June of 1966 as a Telephone Operator and she retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone company after nearly 30 years.

On January 3, 1970, Barbara married the love of her life, Sherwood Hamilton in Lyford, Texas. The two shared a passionate romance that lasted 55 years and yielded two children and two grandchildren. They spent everyday together and had just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary just before she passed. They were a testament of true love and honor, cherishing every moment together.

A beloved wife, mother, aunt and grandmother, Barbara, will always be remembered for her kindness, heart of gold and willingness to help those in trouble, even strangers. She had a natural intuition to help others in need. She had a remarkable memory and always thought of others before herself.

Barbara was a member of the Prayer Warriors' group with Valley Praise of Harlingen where they prayed for those in need. Barbara was an avid sports lover and especially fond of the Dallas Cowboys, which she shared a common interest with her grandson Nate and son-in-law. She loved country music and enjoyed going to Country and Western concerts and had a passion for art and painting. She traveled to many places around the world including England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, Guam, Mexico and many other countries.

A service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Valley Praise Church, 1927 West Jefferson Avenue, Harlingen, Texas, 78550.
