Carl Salvatore Contrata

June 2nd 2024. He was born to Salvatore Contrata and Elena Contrata on November 11th,

1950 in New Rochelle, New York. After graduating Harrison High School Carl attended college

at the University of North Texas graduating with a B.S. in Psychology, and a M.S. in Library

Science from Sam Houston State University. Thus starting a career in education and sports.

For a few years Carl worked in several high schools and odd jobs in east texas before finally

settling down in the Rio Grande Valley working for Santa Rosa High School. He worked there

for a total of 23 years retiring from education on June 4th 2012; he was at different times a

health teacher, school librarian, and varsity basketball coach. Carl had a very strong work ethic

and passion for sports reflected outside of just coaching with his involvement in volleyball and

basketball sports officiating in corresponding TASO chapters. In both he served in multiple

different important positions for a total of around 31 years with such accomplishments as the 30

year Distinguished Service award, Volleyball Chapter Recording Secretary, and holding the

record for greatest number of points in TASO basketball chapter history (5609) reflective of the

number of games officiated and work within the chapter. As an active traveler and outdoorsman

he sought to include family and friends in such activities as much as he could, instilling a sense

of worldliness and imparting a wealth of experiences to his children.

Carl leaves behind his wife Carmen Contrata, two children Michael & Emanuelle Contrata, one

grandchild, his brother Robert Contrata, sister-in-law Rita, nephew and niece Kenneth & Alyse,

Aunt Frances Contrata, and eight cousins.

To all those who knew Carl and thankful of the service he provided, come join us in celebrating

his life at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home and Memorial Park in La Feria, Tx. Visitation will be

held on Friday June 7th, 3pm-10pm, rosary will start at 6pm. Burial will be on Saturday June

8th, 10am at the same location.
