Charlyn Beth Avant Elliott, 92, took her Saviors hand and flew home, July 14, 2017, where we are sure she danced into the arms of her beloved husband, Jack. She was a ‘one of a kind’ woman with a heart of gold. She was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Fiercely independent and extremely feisty, she was known for doing things her way. She passed to her next life beautifully, in the presence of her children.
She was born in Pearsall, Texas November 7, 1924 to Frank L. and Neva K. Avant. At age 3, the family moved to Mercedes, Texas where Frank opened a Barber Shop. She lived there until she married.
She was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Jacque (Jack) Elliott and 2 infant granddaughters. She is survived by the children she adored, Beth A. (Rusty) Truax of San Benito, TX and Joel C. Elliott Los Angeles, CA. and also the grandchildren she loved to brag about; Jacob Truax, Aislinn (Bryan) Truax King, Caleb (Sarah) Truax, Ethan (Julie) Truax, Beth’El Truax, Belle Truax and Marissa Elliott Baptiste. Her Great-Grandchildren Tasha King, Autumn Truax King, Rustin King, Jacque (Jack) Truax, Addison (Addie) Truax, Penny Truax and her Great-Great Granddaughter Willow Ramirez.
She was a devoted follower of CHRIST; a prayer warrior and a student of her bible daily. She was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Harlingen that became New Hope Presbyterian Church of La Feria. For many years she held down the front pew and made sure the paraments were changed and the flowers where in place for Sunday services. When she wasn’t being a housewife and stay at home mom, she worked in the accounting departments of different banks in La Feria and Harlingen. After retiring she spent her Fridays with the grandkids reading books and giving back rubs; then settled down for ‘coffee time’ with dessert. She loved routines.
Charlyn had a style all her own and not just her signature red hair and blue eyeliner; she loved big sunglasses, gold purses and gold ballet flats; red cowboy boots and fringe denim jackets. Her motto was Accessorize! Accessorize! Accessorize! She loved getting her hair done once a week (thank you Pam Metzger) and was often seen racing her little white car down the frontage road between Harlingen and San Benito.
In her later year’s she was dubbed Foxy Grandma and she’d let out a big laugh when one of the kids said it. She didn’t think so but she was a beautiful woman with a sparkle in her eyes. She was a hoot and a toot and she is sorely missed already.
Our family wants to thank Dr. Roxanna Pagan Maldonado, Dr. Kota and Dr. Reynoso for all her care over the years. The staff at Windsor Atrium for being so good to her this last year and All Valley Hospice for everything you did for her last week. Jennifer from Wild August Nursery & Flower Farm for the beautiful flowers she loved and looked forward to every week. To the Caballero women (Rebeca, Florinda & Rosa) your love, friendship and care can never be repaid. And to Susan Kerens, Chair of Congregational Care, New Hope PC, for the cards and visits every month.
In leu of flowers, donations for a prayer garden at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 208 W. Central, La Feria would be greatly appreciated.
There will be a graveside service at the City of La Feria Cemetery 11336-11498 Memorial Dr. La Feria, TX off Rabb Road at on Friday July 21, 2017 at 4:00 pm, followed by a party at New Hope Presbyterian Church 208 W. Central Ave., La Feria.
