Clarence Joseph Bernier, 78. Clarence passed away at Knapp Memorial Hospital in Weslaco, TX on May 16, 2020, due to an illness other than COVID-19. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Diane, and their three sons, Shawn (Deana) , Bob (Jan) , and Chad (Jillian), his grandchildren, Ben Dalbol (Kate Tepley), Alexis, Adam, Adelia, Shelby, Eli, Brody, and Hannah Bernier and his great-grandchildren, Zepher and Journey Walberg, Brennan and Julia Dalbol.
Clarence grew up in the Village of St Benedict, just south of Fargo, ND. His family attended St. Benedict Catholic Church and School. He was very proud of the work he did around the church as a child and always felt a connection to the area. After High School he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. Following his service, he worked for NCR until his retirement. For the past few years, he and Diane have lived in Weslaco, TX, where they have are made many wonderful friends.
For many years, he and his brothers, Gene and Kenny, were in a band named The Rustlers. They played many of the venues in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Clarence really loved playing in the band. He also played fastpitch softball for Wild Rice, participated in pool leagues and was part of the horseshoe pitchers association for many years.
Clarence was one of 11 children of Robert and Marcella Bernier. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Lorraine Trottier, Yvonne Olson, Ilene Zahn and Delores Bernier and by brothers: Eugene, Kenneth, and Jerry. He is now reunited with two of his grandchildren, Alicia Bernier and Connor Bernier. He is survived by three siblings, Margaret Pronovost, Ione Parsons and Steve Bernier and their families.
His family will remember him as genuine, kind, loving, funny, quick with a smile and a whole lot of fun. His kind nature and fun-loving attitude will be missed by all that knew him.
