Age 88
With deep love, honor, and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of our father, Daniel Limas Lopez, 88. He was born in Rio Hondo, Texas, to Manuel and Santos Lopez, as the youngest of their children. Daniel was one of five sisters and three brothers, all of whom have gone before him into glory. Being the youngest, he learned early the beauty of gentleness, patience, and listening — qualities that shaped him into the man we knew and loved. On October 27, 2025, he entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Harlingen, Texas, surrounded by his family.
Daniel lived a life marked by faith, humility, music, and love. As a young man, after an evening of playing the piano during praise and worship at church, he was walking home when he surrendered his heart to Jesus. That simple, sacred moment became the foundation of his life of devotion.
One verse guided Daniel deeply:
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
– 1 John 4:8 (NIV)
Daniel lived this verse. He loved with gentleness. He loved without needing to be seen. He loved in a way that made others feel safe and held.
Daniel was a long-time member of First Assembly of God Church in Harlingen, Texas, where he served faithfully on the worship team. He played the piano, bass, and guitar, and he loved to sing. Worship was not performance to him — it was prayer, it was offering, it was home.
And the music did not end with him.
It continues in his children.
He passed on to them the love of worship, the gift of harmony, the joy of singing to the Lord.
His sound lives on.
Daniel also recorded gospel albums with his children and brothers, leaving melodies that continue to minister today.
After many years of hard work with Yarborough’s Flooring, Daniel founded his own business, Dan’s Carpet Service, serving the Rio Grande Valley from 1970 to 2015. He was known for his honesty, craftsmanship, and generosity. He donated his carpet services to many churches across Texas and Mexico, blessing God’s house without ever seeking recognition.
He was an avid fisherman, a man who found peace by the water, and he loved to BBQ — often called to be the pitmaster for church gatherings, family celebrations, and community events.
Daniel shared 49 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maria Elena Melendez. Together, they built a home of warmth, faith, laughter, and unconditional love.
He is survived by his nine children, 24 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
His faith lives in them.
His music lives through them.
His love remains with them.
In his later years, Daniel faced dementia with grace. Even when memories faded, his spirit remained gentle. Today, we rejoice knowing that he is restored, whole, remembered, and singing again — this time in the presence of Jesus.
