Daniel Leroy Waylander
May 14, 1941 - March 20, 2019
Dan Waylander passed away peacefully while in hospice care at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, Texas - Wednesday afternoon on 3/20, at the age of 77.
Dan was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.
Born to fish and forced to work, this Minnesota boy loved warm weather and the ocean- this is why he retired down near South Padre Island, Texas. A smooth ladies’ man, and an avid fisherman, he also loved to cook and entertain, and was often the life of the party. Dan was famous for his Coconut Shrimp and BBQ Ribs. His personality wasn't the only thing big, standing tall at 6’5, he was a jack-of-all-trades and liked working with his hands. He was also well known for his green thumb, sharing his love of nature and gardening for all his neighbors to enjoy.
In his earthly journey, Dan was a son, brother, husband, father and friend. His spirit will be carried on by his loving family and his many dear friends- from every walk of life. We will miss his straightforward way of speaking the truth, no matter how unpleasant. Probably best described by the John Wayne saying, “life is tough, but it’s tougher if you’re stupid.” We will always love our strong, stubborn Swede as he may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. You will live on in our hearts and memories.
Heavenly Grace Funeral Home in La Feria, TX, will be making the arrangements as Dan chose to be cremated. A private Memorial Service will be held in Port Isabel, TX.

Last but certainly not least, we are forever grateful for you, Joy and everything you did for dad but mostly for your love. You are amazing!
