

She was shot to death while trying to escape from the car of an acquaintance. Two other men were also shot trying to help her escape, including a U.S. Marshall. Destiny was 28 years old.
Destiny was born in Harlingen, Texas to Billy Gene and Mischellene Pemelton on July 22, 1992. Survivors include her 21 month old son, Landon Gene Pemelton; parents, Billy Gene and Mischellene Pemelton (Harlingen); brothers, Laredo Pemelton (Harlingen) and Bill Pemelton, Jr. (Pharr); sister, Julie Cooke (Vattell) from La Feria; grandmother, Nancy Swearengin (Walt Ridings) from Mercedes; aunts, Paula Kay Heggen (Allen) from San Antonio and Angelique Blanco (Joe) from Chandler, Arizona; uncle, Darrell Swearengin, III (Cherie) from Austin, Texas and many cousins including her special friendship with Kristi Elizondo (Ben) from San Antonio.
Destiny was close to her family and enjoyed taking care of her animals. She often shared a daily bible verse.
Destiny loved to travel and had visited many places in the United States, Mexico, and Europe. She was fluent in Spanish, and avid reader and enjoyed cooking, baking, and exercising at the gym.
Destiny would want to be remembered most for her life of service as a registered nurse. She was caring and compassionate and loved her patients.
She will be missed.
A visitation for Destiny will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home, 26873 N. White Ranch Road, La Feria, Texas 78559, with a service to be held at 4:00 PM.
