Donald Preston McClure

Donald Preston McClure, age 84, took his last breath on this earth and went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 5, 2022.

Donald was born in Abilene , Texas to Oscar Preston McClure and Leota Fain McClure on June 22, 1937. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at Temple Baptist Church in Abilene in 1946. In January of 1959 he married the mother of his children, Mickey McClure(Green). Early in his adult life he was active in leading church music for small churches and meetings. He kept his love of music, Gospel, classical and Irish throughout his life. He spent the majority of his career working in advertising and marketing. He especially loved reminiscing about his time working in Germany for Alliance Rubber Company. In later years he enjoyed gardening, bird watching and sharing his trained therapy Lhasa Apso dog, Sammy, with nursing home residents and shut ins . He spent the end of his life in Harlingen, Texas, much of it at Veranda Rehabilitation Center. He was very active in the community there in a group Bible study and in his role as President of the Resident Council .

He is predeceased by his parents, a son, Michael Preston McClure, a sister, Oleta Joyce Johnson and a wife, Mary Frances McClure. He is survived by one sister, Winnie Dyer, 2 sons, Connan Dale McClure and Kerry Shawn McClure and 2 daughters, Donna Joyce Moors and Jennifer Kathleen McCune . He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. One of the greatest joys of his last years was when the grand kids and great grandkids would sing with him.

A memorial service will be held at Central Baptist Church , 122 W. Filmore, Harlingen, Texas on Wednesday, May 11th at 11:00 AM.
