With deep love and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Donato (Don) Garcia, a devoted husband, cherished father, proud grandfather, and respected public servant, who entered eternal rest on 12/09/25.
Don dedicated 36 years of his life to law enforcement including working undercover in the task force and being an Investigator for the La Feria Police Department. Out of those 36 years 16 of those years he served as Chief of Police for the City of La Feria. After retiring, he continued his commitment to his community by serving as a City Commissioner, a role he proudly fulfilled up until his final days. His leadership, integrity, and unwavering devotion to service left a lasting legacy in the city he loved so deeply. To many, he was not just a leader — he was a trusted mentor, a protector, and a steady force of good.
At home, Don was the heart of his family — their anchor and guiding light. He shared a beautiful life with his loving wife, Oneida, and together they raised three children: David Garcia (Diana), Donna De Leon(Joey), and Serena Sanchez (Frank). His greatest joy was being a grandfather to Everly Grace, Ezra Alexander, Erina Justine, David Jr., and Daniel, who brought him endless pride and happiness.
Don was a man of strength, honor, wisdom, and patience. He lived by the values he taught — humility, kindness, loyalty, and service to others. Anyone who knew him knew they could always count on him. He never hesitated to help, to offer counsel, or to bring comfort. And in the midst of it all, he was the one who made people laugh, told the jokes that became family favorites, and danced with a joy that was contagious.
He loved his family fiercely and unconditionally, and they loved him the same.
Though our hearts ache, we are forever grateful for the years we were blessed with him. His legacy lives on in the community he served, in the countless people he helped, and in the family who carries his spirit forward.
To know Don was to admire him. To be loved by him was the greatest gift.
