Dora Jane Hummert passed away peacefully at her home in Harlingen, Texas, on Wednesday, March 8. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Edgar Hummert. They were married 73 years. Dora was a devoted and loving mother to her five daughters Janet (Luis) Garza, Laura Jean (Dale) Miller, Joni (Robert) Radford, Julie Powell, and Jolene Pankonien. She was the proud grandmother of eleven, great-grandmother of nineteen, and great-great-grandmother of one.
Dora is survived by one brother, Allen Analla, of Millstadt, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her father, Isaac Kowice Analla, of Paraje Village, New Mexico; her mother, Flora Weaver (nee Schmelzel) of Belleville, Illinois; stepfather William Weaver of Belleville and brothers Robert Analla and Kenneth Analla.
Dora was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and spent her early childhood at Paraje Village on the Pueblo of Laguna. She was very proud of her Native American heritage. She later attended public schools in Freeburg, Illinois, and graduated from Freeburg Community High School.
Edgar and Dora made their home in Fayetteville, Illinois. They moved to Harlingen, Texas, in 1960. When Dora’s youngest daughter started school, Dora decided to continue her education. She attended Harlingen Business College and then enjoyed many years as an Executive Secretary. She particularly enjoyed her time with the Confederate Air Force of Harlingen, the Marine Military Academy of Harlingen, Pearl Brewery of San Antonio, and the Harlingen Country Club.
Dora loved spending time with family and friends. She loved to write letters and send cards and was always ready to lend a hand to someone in need. She will always be remembered for her Easter and Christmas Sugar Cookies, and for her delicious cherry pies.
A strong woman of faith, Dora was a devout Catholic and an active member of the St. Anthony Catholic Community. She always found time to pray and many benefited by being on her “list”. She had a beautiful smile and such a positive attitude. She reminded everyone to look for the good, be thankful, and “Count your Blessings”.
Special thanks to Dr. Jesus Rodriguez and the entire staff at Valley Baptist Family Practice for your dedication and love for our Mom. Thanks also to everyone at Valley View Senior Living for your care and support and thanks to Frank Munoz and Jessica Aguilar of Harbor Hospice for helping us make Mom’s final wish to go home a reality.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas, at 10:00am on Friday, March 17. In lieu of flowers, please make donation to St. Anthony Catholic School, 1015 East Harrison, Harlingen, Texas.
