It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eloy Javier Reyna Sr., affectionately known as “Butch,” who went to be with the Lord on September 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on June 28, 1951, Eloy was the beloved son of Roberto Reyna Sr. and Evangelina Reyna. He was kind, witty, funny, intelligent, and a compassionate man whose presence brought laughter, wisdom, and love to those fortunate enough to know him.
Eloy shared 52 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Nelda C. Reyna. Together, they built a family grounded in love, commitment, and devotion. Their life together was a testament to the enduring love they shared.
Eloy devoted 28 years of his life to education, touching the lives of countless students and families throughout his career. Teaching was more than a profession to him; it was an opportunity to share his knowledge, encourage others, and make a lasting difference in the lives of those around him. His intelligence, patience, humor, and compassion made him a memorable educator, and the impact he made during those 28 years became an important part of the legacy he leaves behind.
He is survived by his wife, Nelda; his children, Melinda Mendez (David) and Eloy Reyna Jr. (Monica); and his beloved grandson, Jason Matthew Garcia, who brought immense pride and joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Jamie Reyna (Dalia), along with many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
To his family, Eloy was so much more than a husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. He was a protector, a source of wisdom, a trusted confidant, and the heart of the family. His quick wit and wonderful sense of humor could bring a smile to even the hardest moments, while his intelligence and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone around him.
Eloy lived his life with a genuine love for music. As a musician, he played in the Inkeeper band while in college in the 1970s, learning multiple instruments throughout his lifetime and later passing that same love and appreciation for music on to his grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberto Reyna Sr. and Evangelina Reyna, and his older brother, Robert Reyna Jr.
Although his family will deeply mourn his absence, they find comfort knowing that Eloy is now at peace and reunited with those who went before him.
His legacy will live on through his wife, children, grandson, family, former students, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his 75 years.
Rest in peace, Butch. You are deeply loved, and you will be in our hearts forever.
