Federico Escamilla Jr.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Federico Sr. and Virginia Escamilla of Weslaco, TX.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years, Margarita Escamilla of Mercedes, along with his children Jaime (Ida) Torres, Martha Torres, Dana Escamilla, Andrea (Terry) Williams, and Monica Escamilla. He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren: Andres (Selena) and Joshua Rivera, Robert L. Dortch III and Monica Maldonado, Ilene, Jaime, and Joel Torres, Jose (Marissa), Tonie Marie, Alyssa (Lorenzo), and Anyssa Herrera, and Mason K. Montoya, as well as 16 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his four sisters: Sandra (Ernesto) Castillo, Janie (†Raul) Garza, Angelina (Rene) Reyes, and †Sylvia Gonzalez.

A longtime resident of Mercedes, Federico was born at Mercedes General Hospital and later lived in Weslaco and Fresno, California, before returning home. He enjoyed retirement, finding joy in fishing, BBQing, and spending time with family, friends, and his dogs. He was also a sports enthusiast and never missed a Monday Night Football game. He also enjoyed boxing and wrestling. He loved being outdoors and taking a cruise in his truck.

He will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful husband, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, grandpa and the absolute best dad.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Heavenly Grace Funeral Home in La Feria, TX. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, followed by interment at Mercedes Catholic Cemetery.
