Jamie Salinas

Jamie Flores Salinas, born March 7, 1967 to Perfecto Flores and Alicia Turrubiates entered into her eternal heavenly home on August 4, 2025. Her life’s journey was marked with love, compassion and her unwavering faith in God.

She loved, respected, and honored her parents and siblings with all her heart. Being the oldest she was seen as a second mother to her younger siblings (Cecilia, Keren, Joel, Alicia, Dario+, Claudia) often making their meals and protecting them as they grew up.

Jamie was beautiful inside and out. She had a beautiful and modest soul that would be a beacon of light and joy to everyone she met. She was raised in Harlingen and attended Harlingen High School, graduating in May of 1986.

After completing high school, she enrolled at Texas State Technical College and graduated with a degree as a Medical Records Clerk/Transcriptionist in February 1988.

A few months earlier, while participating in a Christmas play at El Buen Samaritano Methodist Church in Primera, Texas, she met the love of her life (Steven Salinas), and he met the love of his life in Jamie as well. They mutually fell deeply in love and were married at El Buen Samaritano Methodist Church in Harlingen, Texas December 24, 1988.

Being in the Air Force, Steven and Jamie moved to San Antonio where Steven was assigned to work at Randolph Air Force Base. They soon had their first child, Jessica Marie, on January 20th, 1990, and their only son, Steven Jr. October 2, 1991.

Having completed his tour of service, Steven and Jamie returned home to be near their family and to continue with their academic education. In 1994, Jamie obtained admission to the Licensed Vocational Nurse Program at Valley Baptist Medical Center and graduated in August 1995. Later that year, Angelica Marie was born on December 14, 1995. Aside from being a wife, mother, and a nurse, Jamie also became a pastor’s wife when Steven was ordained as a minister and became a pastor on December 16, 1995.

As the years went by, Jamie obtained much experience as a nurse working at the hospital, at a nursing home, and then at an adult day care center. With Steven’s experience working for the state, and Jamie’s nursing experience, they decided to unite their individual skills and embark on a business journey, starting their own adult day care center named Emanuel Adult Day Care in October of 1998. Success was expected and obtained thanks to God. With the birth of their 4th child, Kasandra Nicole, on June 18, 2000, they decided to sell their business to devote all their love and attention to their children.

With a growing family, Jamie and Steven decided to build a larger home and settle to raise their children in La Feria. Jamie longed to pursue a higher nursing position as a Registered Nurse (RN) and completed the RN program at the University of Texas in Brownsville in 2008. Jamie’s nursing experience brought her joy and was a delight for her and to those she cared for throughout her 30 years of service from August, 1995 through August, 2025.

Jamie’s vast nursing experience included positions as a medical surgical nurse, charge nurse, interventional radiology nurse, endoscopy nurse, treatment and wound care nurse, and pediatric nurse at local hospitals (Valley Baptist, Knapp Medical Center and Su Clinica Familiar) as well as at the Brownsville and Harlingen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Jamie’s passion and devotion was primarily the care of children, which lead her to specialize in pediatrics as a school nurse for over 15 years (10 years with the San Benito Independent School District (ISD), 4 years with the La Feria ISD, and 1 year with Rio Hondo ISD).

Aside from her professional accomplishments and spending quality time caring and playing with her beloved grandchildren, she enjoyed crafting, cooking and baking. She was often looked upon to bake or cook her legendary treats or dishes for special events at school, church, to share with coworkers, and for visiting relatives always preparing their favorite meals – (enchiladas, beef tacos, tacoladas, chicken alfredo, chicken parmesan, flour tortillas, gorditas, festive cakes, pies and her legendary banana-nut-bread).

Jamie and Steven were very much in love and were married for a total of 36 years and 8 months. Jamie was the rock and support of her family, helping to build a beautiful life filled with laughter, and much love and an active supporter and cheerleader for her husband and family.

Together, Jamie and Steven were blessed with 4 children (3 daughters and 1 son): Jessica Marie, Steven Jr., Angelica Marie and Kasandra Nicole. They also have 5 grandchildren, Mike Samuel, Emilia Rose, Aaron Alexander, Allison Rae, Ariana Grace, and one on the way- baby Kal-el.

We celebrate Jamie’s life, and service to her family, her church, her community and our country as a loving and beautiful mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, pastor’s wife, military wife, first responder and registered nurse.

She loved and devoted her life to God first, her husband, children and grandchildren as well as her church family, and the many lives she touched, and cared for as a nurse and as a pastor’s wife. Jamie was an avid member of her church, and was part of the praise and worship band, and church choir, often leading special church fellowship meals and gatherings as well.

Jamie’s love and compassion for her children and grandchildren will be missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to shine and live on through her family and those she served.

As we say goodbye, our hearts are heavy but overflowing with gratitude as we celebrate her incredible life and memory embodying the values of resilience, compassion, endless love and her unwavering support and faith. She may no longer be with us physically, but her love for us and our unending love for her will live on in our hearts forever, guiding us to love and care for others, as God has commanded us to do.

Jamie Flores Salinas, nacida el 7 de marzo de 1967, hija de Perfecto Flores y Alicia Turrubiates, entró en su hogar celestial eterno el 4 de agosto de 2025. Su vida estuvo marcada por el amor, la compasión y una fe inquebrantable en Dios. Amaba, respetaba y honraba a sus padres y hermanos con todo su corazón. Siendo la mayor, era considerada como una segunda madre para sus hermanos menores,( Cecilia, Keren, Joel, Alicia, Dario+, Claudia) a menudo preparándoles la comida y protegiéndolos a medida que crecían.

Jamie era hermosa por dentro y por fuera. Tenía un alma hermosa y modesta que era un faro de luz y alegría para todos los que la conocían. Se crio en Harlingen y asistió a la escuela secundaria de Harlingen, donde se graduó en mayo de 1986.

Después de terminar la preparatoria, se matriculó en el Texas State Technical College y se graduó como Auxiliar de Registros Médicos/Transcriptora en febrero de 1988.

Unos meses antes, mientras participaba en una obra navideña en la Iglesia Metodista El Buen Samaritano de Primera, Texas, conoció al amor de su vida (Steven Salinas) y el encontro el amor de su vida (Jamie) igualmente. Se enamoraron mutuamente los dos y se casaron en la Iglesia Metodista El Buen Samaritano de Harlingen, Texas, el 24 de diciembre de 1988.

Estando en la Fuerza Aérea, Steven y Jamie se mudaron a San Antonio, donde Steven fue asignado a trabajar en la Base Aérea Randolph. Pronto tuvieron a su primera hija, Jessica Marie, el 20 de enero de 1990, y a su único hijo, Steven Jr., el 2 de octubre de 1991.

Tras completar su servicio militar, Steven y Jamie regresaron a casa para estar cerca de su familia y continuar con su educación académica. En 1994, Jamie ingresó al Programa de Enfermería Vocacional con Licencia del Centro Médico Bautista Valley y se graduó en agosto de 1995. Ese mismo año, nació Angélica Marie, el 14 de diciembre de 1995. Además de ser esposa, madre y enfermera, Jamie también se convirtió en esposa de pastor cuando Steven fue ordenado ministro y se convirtió en pastor el 16 de diciembre de 1995.

Con el paso de los años, Jamie adquirió amplia experiencia como enfermera, trabajando en un hospital, en un hogar de ancianos y luego en un centro de día para adultos. Con la experiencia de Steven trabajando para el estado y la experiencia de Jamie como enfermera, decidieron unir sus habilidades y emprender un camino empresarial, abriendo su propio centro de día para adultos llamado Emanuel Adult Day Care en octubre de 1998. El éxito era esperado y lo obtuvieron gracias a Dios. Con el nacimiento de su cuarta hija, Kasandra Nicole, el 18 de junio de 2000, decidieron vender su negocio para dedicar todo su amor y atención a sus hijos.

Con una familia en crecimiento, Jamie y Steven decidieron construir una casa más grande y establecerse en La Feria para criar a sus hijos. Jamie anhelaba obtener un puesto de enfermería superior como Enfermera Registrada (RN) y completó el programa de RN en la Universidad de Texas en Brownsville en 2008.

La experiencia de Jamie en enfermería le trajo alegría y fue un deleite tanto para ella como para quienes cuidó durante sus 30 años de servicio, desde agosto de 1995 hasta agosto de 2025. La vasta experiencia de Jamie en enfermería incluyó puestos como enfermera médico-quirúrgica, enfermera jefe, enfermera de radiología intervencionista, enfermera de endoscopia, enfermera de tratamiento y cuidado de heridas, y enfermera pediátrica en hospitales locales (Valley Baptist, Knapp Medical Center y Su Clínica Familiar), así como en el Centro de Enfermería y Rehabilitación de Brownsville y Harlingen.

La pasión y dedicación de Jamie se centraba principalmente en el cuidado de niños, lo que la llevó a especializarse en pediatría como enfermera escolar durante más de 15 años (10 años en el Distrito Escolar Independiente (ISD) de San Benito, 4 años en el ISD de La Feria y 1 año en el ISD de Rio Hondo).

Además de sus logros profesionales y de pasar tiempo de calidad cuidando y jugando con sus queridos nietos, disfrutaba de las manualidades, la cocina y la repostería. A menudo le pedían que horneara o cocinara sus legendarios dulces o platillos para eventos especiales en la escuela, la iglesia, para compartir con sus compañeros de trabajo y para familiares que la visitaban, siempre preparando sus comidas favoritas (enchiladas, tacos de res, tacoladas, pollo Alfredo, pollo parmesano, tortillas de harina, gorditas, pasteles festivos, tartas y su legendario pan de plátano y nueces).

Jamie y Steven estaban muy enamorados y estuvieron casados durante 36 años y 8 meses. Jamie fue el pilar y el apoyo de su familia, ayudándoles a construir una vida hermosa, llena de risas y mucho amor, y una gran defensora y animadora para su esposo y su familia.

Juntos, Jamie y Steven fueron bendecidos con 4 hijos (3 niñas y 1 niño): Jessica Marie, Steven Jr., Angelica Marie y Kasandra Nicole. También tienen 5 nietos: Mike Samuel, Emilia Rose, Aaron Alexander, Allison Rae, Ariana Grace y uno en camino: el bebé Kal-el.

Celebramos la vida de Jamie y su servicio a su familia, su iglesia, su comunidad y nuestro país como una hermosa y amorosa madre, abuela, esposa, hija, hermana, esposa de pastor, esposa de militar, socorrista y enfermera titulada.

Ella amó y dedicó su vida a Dios primero, a su esposo, hijos y nietos, así como a la familia de su iglesia, y a las muchas vidas que tocó y cuidó como enfermera y esposa de pastor.

Jamie fue una miembra ferviente de su iglesia y formaba parte de la banda de alabanza y adoración, y del coro de la iglesia, dirigiendo con frecuencia comidas y reuniones especiales de la iglesia.

Extrañaremos el amor y la compasión de Jamie por sus hijos y nietos, pero jamás los olvidaremos. Su legado de amor y compasión seguirá brillando y vivo a través de su familia y de aquellos a quienes sirvió.

Al despedirnos, sentimos un gran pesar, pero rebosamos de gratitud al celebrar su increíble vida y memoria, que encarnan los valores de la resiliencia, la compasión, el amor infinito y su apoyo y fe inquebrantables.

Puede que ya no esté con nosotros físicamente, pero su amor por nosotros y el nuestro por ella vivirán para siempre en nuestros corazones, guiándonos a amar y cuidar a los demás, como Dios nos ha ordenado.
