     We wish to extend our condolences to the friends and families of John Benke. John and his wife, Donna, were neighbors of ours at Paradise Park in Harlingen, TX. 
     For many years, John was active as a volunteer in Paradise Park. He was known as The Paradise Park sound man in charge of the microphones in the Recreation Hall. He had this volunteer job for many years and was responsible for providing good sound for entertainment functions, church services and the many activities which take place at the Rec Hall.
     John and Donna were the host and hostess for the annual Jasper Lane block party for many years  and volunteered their lovely home for the picnic (usually 40-50 participants).  
    The military plaque in our Rec hall to  honor those who have served, states the name of the military branch, and the month and year of their birth. John's information on the plaque reads U.S. Navy  8-1939.  John served with pride for his country and was generous with his time volunteering at Paradise Park. We will hold on to many pleasant memories.

John was active as a volunteer in Paradise Park. He was known as The Paradise Park sound man in charge of the microphones in the Recreation Hall. He had this volunteer job for many years and was responsible for  providing good sound  for entertainment functions,church services and the many activities which take place at the Rec Hall.
    John and Donna were the host and hostess for the annual Jasper Lane block party for many years  and volunteered their lovely home at the end of the cul-de-sac. Their home has double carports which would provide shelter if necessary in case of rain that could spoil the picnic block party for 40-50 participants. 
    Several years ago the Paradise Park Advisory Board suggested that since Paradise Park had so many residents who had served in the military that a plaque
be placed in the Rec hall to honor  them. The plaque states the name of the military branch in which they served, and the month and year of their birth. John's information on the plaque reads  U.S. Navy 8 - 1939.  John served with pride his country and was generous with his time to work the volunteer activities at Paradise Park.
   We are fortunate to have known John for many years and we hold on to many pleasant memories.

We extend our sympathy to the families and friends of John Benke.  He was a generous man who always had a smile to share, a story to tell, and plenty of time to listen and share.
