Jose Luis Baltazar Gutierrez

José Luis Baltazar Gutierrez, passed away peacefully among family on July 26, 2025, at the age of 68. A beloved son, brother, and uncle, José Luis leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, strength, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to his family and friends.

From an early age, José Luis worked alongside his family as a farm laborer, learning the value of hard work. His humble beginnings shaped the man he would become— strong, grounded, and unwavering in his principles. José Luis never let life’s challenges deter him; instead, he faced every obstacle with grit and determination.

Fueled by a deep commitment to social justice, José Luis graduated from Southwestern Law School. Throughout his legal career, he was a champion for the underrepresented, guiding people with integrity, empathy and dignity.

José Luis’ legacy extends beyond his professional accomplishments. He was a man of deep love and humility. He was always the first to lend a helping hand to his friends and family. His presence brought joy and strength to every room he entered. In his final year, he drew near to the Lord, embracing a life of faith and sharing wisdom and grace with all who crossed his path.

José Luis is preceded in death by his father, Santos R. Gutierrez; his mother, María Guadalupe Baltazar Gutierrez; his sister, sister Bertha Lopez; and his nephew, Andrew Garcia. He is survived by his siblings: Santos (Mary), Eleazar (Marion), Carmen (✝ Ramon), Rosalinda, Rolando, Raquel (Juan Manuel), Rogelio (Rosie), and Yolanda (✝ Hilario) along with countless nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues, and community members who were touched by his life and legacy.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Centro Evangelistico Sion del Santo de Israel, 1123 W. Tyler Ave., Harlingen, TX 78550. The service will be followed by a casting ceremony at South Padre Island (Starlight Circle, Beach Access 17).

José Luis lived a life rooted in truth and love, a legacy that will live on in each of us.
