Margaret Evans Medrano died peacefully on July 22, 2020, in Weslaco, TX, at the age of 86. Left to cherish Margaret’s memory are her children, Janie (Eduardo) Diaz of McAllen, Diana (Juan) De La Rosa of Weslaco, Juan Gamez of Prosser, Washington, Margie (Abraham) Cazares of Mercedes, Albert (Isabel) Najar of Harlingen, Eva (Rosa) Najar of San Antonio, Graciela (Mario) Zanelli of Katy, Alvaro (Annie) Medrano of Kennedy, and Adela (Ricardo) Roman of Weslaco; daughters-in-law Mirian Najar of Miami, Florida, and Paula V. Gamez of Prosser, Washington; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Margaret is now rejoicing in the Heavens above with her loving husband, Alvaro Medrano, her sons, Juan B. and Adan Najar, and her grandson, Christopher Lee Gamez. She has also joined her parents John B. and Adela Evans, as well as all of her siblings: Hortencia, Nicolas, Antonio, Guadalupe, Elisa, Lily, Elva, Bertha, and Emma. Margaret was born on February 23, 1934, in La Paloma, Texas, to John and Adela Evans. She was a life-long resident of Mercedes, Texas, where she raised her children, and remained close to all of her brothers and sisters. Her home was where everyone gathered as she and her siblings, los tios y las tias, shared family stories, “cuentos,” and jokes as all of the cousins sat on the floor to listen. She, along with the tios and tias, made sure that our family bond was an unbreakable one. Margaret was strong-willed, determined, compassionate, and giving. She will be remembered for her silly nature, sense of humor, her feistiness, and her not-so-appropriate vocabulary. Serving as pallbearers for Margaret are her grandsons, Jaime Jaramillo, Juan De La Rosa, Jr., David Gamez, Randy Gamez, Albert Valderas, Alvaro Medrano, Jr., Kevin Medrano, and great-grandson, Jonathan Liscano. Heavenly Grace, 26873 N. White Ranch Rd., La Feria, will be in charge of funeral arrangements for Margaret. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 31st, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. A mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Mercedes on Saturday, August 1st, at 10 a.m. with interment immediately after at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park. Covid safety precautionary measures will be in place. Masks and social distancing will be required.

My lovely grandma, I will miss you dearly. I will cherish the wonderfull memories from when we were children and having huge gatherings in your apartment and everyone just being happy and you handing out your hugs and kisses to everyone. Grandma you had such a wonderful spirit that made everyone just want to be closer to you. I will miss the days when we would take you your pecan pies and hide them so no one will know you had them there lol and eating pan dulce in your apartment with grandpa with me and my family. We love you may you rest in peace.

To my beautiful grandmother, oh how I will cherish the times I spent with you; the road trip to Katy, our shopping trips to the dollar stores, the trips to the cemetery to visit our loved ones, going out to eat, or just spoiling you and papi by getting you anything you wanted (and hiding it from Gracie). But most especially, I will cherish the times I spent with you and papi at your house just watching tv, listening to music, and reminiscing about the good ole days. Your home was my sanctuary; the only place where I could just sit on the sofa and fall asleep in an instant. I will miss hearing dad say, "Ya te estas dormiendo hija," and your retaliatory response of, "Ya dejala que se duerma. No la molestes." You were always looking out for me. I am comforted with knowing that you knew how much I loved you!! Although you will no longer be here on this Earth, you will forever live in my heart! Give dad, Roli, and Chris a big hug and kiss for me! I will love you forever my High Spirit!! Until we meet again...

Grandma, I will remember and cherish the times my wife and I would visit with you and grandpa. Thank you for the wisdom, advice, and stories that you shared with us. I'm happy that you got to meet both of your great-great grandsons and know that your love for us was unlimited. I will miss you and look forward to the day that I can see you again in paradise. Love, Saulito.
