Maria M. Alaniz.

Maria M. Alaniz, age 72, of Harlingen, Texas passed on Saturday April 24, 2021.

A lifelong native of the RGV she lived a fulfilling life as a wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

She was born October 27, 1948 in San Benito, Texas and was a graduate of Harlingen High School class of 1968. She was a dedicated employee to the TSTC police department for 41 years before her retirement. She was also an alum of UT-Brownsville class of 2007.

Maria is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Martin Alaniz Jr and her children Eunice Parker of Florida, Christina Dowden of Katy, Beatrice Alaniz of Harlingen, Belinda Zavala of San Antonio including her eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, Isabel Rodriguez, one brother and five sisters.

A visitation for Maria will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home, 26873 N. White Ranch Road, La Feria, Texas 78559. A rosary to follow at 7:00 PM. A Chapel Service will occur Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 10:00 AM and Burial at 11:00 AM at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park.

I met Maria at the HHS Band Boosters and shared many years working with her with the Boosters and traveling to the out of town games as chaperones. Sending my deepest condolences in your loss.

Mrs. Alaniz had the biggest heart. I will forever remember her caring nature and making sure I always ate. She also made the BEST caldo!
