Maria Elena Cardenas
January 30, 1952 – May 1, 2021
Maria Elena Cardenas, age 69, of Harlingen, Texas passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021. Maria was born January 30, 1952 to Hortencia and Ernesto Vasquez.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. You would always find her in the kitchen doing what she loved to do; cooking, baking, and scolding, if you were helping. Her kindness was beyond measure in the fact that she would help family, friends, and perfect strangers. She opened the doors for many. It goes without saying she was the mom of all moms. She had a passion for traveling anywhere and everywhere as long as her Husband was by her side. She was in her element when she was fishing, at the beach, enjoying nature, and outdoors. She was devoted to her family and especially the grandchildren. Her achievements as a mother and wife are beyond measure and her Love of Christ and Belief in him were never broken. She loved decorating and cooking for the holidays and was a master planner at family functions and gatherings, which included shutting down the block for parties.
Her strength, courage, and integrity resonate among everyone who knew her. Heaven has received one of it's angels who was privileged to touch so many here on earth. She will be forever missed and always remembered.
Maria is survived by her mother, Hortencia Vasquez and her children; Fortunato Cardenas (Yolanda); Evangelina Nieto (Rafael), Noe Cardenas (Elizabeth), Eloy Cardenas (Mirella), Manuel Cardenas (Eva), Noemi Flores (Joe); Norma Cardenas-Maldonado (Ramiro, April), and Ester Cardenas (Chiquita). .
Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Fortunato Cardenas; and her father Ernesto Vasquez.
Mrs. Cardenas also leaves 29 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
