Dr. Michael Adrian Hernandez, beloved son, brother, uncle, soulmate, and friend, entered eternal rest surrounded by love on October 30, 2025, at the age of 38. Though our hearts are forever broken, we take comfort in knowing that Mikey was cherished every step of the way and that we were blessed with sacred final moments filled with love, gratitude, and peace.
Born on May 12, 1987, in Weslaco, Texas, Michael lived a life defined by courage, perseverance, faith, and compassion. Despite the challenges he faced, he met each day with strength and grace, inspiring everyone who knew him. A proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Pharmacy School. Mikey went on to achieve his dream of becoming Dr. Michael Adrian Hernandez, a testament to his unwavering determination, brilliance, and faith. His life was a beacon of hope and love, showing the world that with faith and perseverance, all things are possible.
Dr. Michael Adrian Hernandez was deeply proud to be part of the Carvajal Pharmacy family. Mikey was overjoyed the day he received the call inviting him to interview with Carvajal Pharmacy. The Carvajal team went above and beyond to meet with him, even traveling to the Valley to make the interview possible. What meant the most to Mikey was that they looked beyond his disability, they saw his intelligence, his potential, and his true heart for helping others. He poured his heart into his work, always striving to make a difference in the lives of patients and colleagues alike. Our family will forever remain grateful to the Carvajal Pharmacy family for recognizing Mikey’s gifts, honoring his dedication, and seeing beyond his wheelchair to the remarkable man, professional, and soul he truly was.
Throughout his life, Mikey was a passionate sports enthusiast and devoted fan who followed his favorite teams with unwavering loyalty. He was a proud supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on during football season. His love for basketball was equally strong, and he remained a dedicated San Antonio Spurs fan through every game. Beyond the excitement of sports, he found joy in the quiet strategy of chess, where he could exercise his sharp mind and competitive spirit in a different arena. Whether he was celebrating a Cowboys victory, debating game strategy, or contemplating his next move on the chessboard, his enthusiasm and passion were infectious to all who knew him.
Mikey shared a deep and extraordinary love with Mary Alice, his devoted soulmate. Their bond was one of tenderness, laughter, and strength. He took pride in caring for her, finding joy in the small acts of love that brought her comfort. He was her rock, her cheerleader, and her heart. He celebrated every milestone with her, especially the day she rang the bell marking the end of her cancer treatments and the day she graduated from nursing school, glowing with pride as he watched her shine.
To MaryAlice, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude for loving Mikey so deeply and for seeing beyond his wheelchair, for seeing the incredible, kind, and radiant man he truly was. Your love filled his days with joy and purpose.
Mikey’s legacy is one of love, kindness, faith, dedication, and perseverance. He was a loyal friend, a devoted son, and a light to all who knew him. His smile could brighten any room, and his heart overflowed with compassion.
Michael is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Juan Alaniz Jr. and Maria Amparo Alaniz, his paternal grandfather, Arturo Hernandez, his maternal uncles: Jorge Alaniz, Juan Alaniz, Javier Alaniz, and Jaime Alaniz, and his parental uncle, Mario Hernandez. He is survived by his beloved life-partner, Mary Alice Castorena (and their pet Cooper), his loving parents, Nora Samantha Alaniz and Jaime Hernandez; and his siblings: Clarissa Natalia Hernandez (her son Tristan), Alexis Jaime Hernandez (his wife Laura and their children Harper and Hunter), Rebecca X. Gonzalez, and Alexandria M. Gonzalez. He was deeply loved by all and will forever live in their hearts.
As we grieve this heartbreaking loss, we thank our Lord, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, for blessing us with the precious gift of Mikey’s life. May God comfort all who loved him, and may our loved ones in Heaven welcome him with open arms.
