

Santa Rosa, CA./La Feria, TX Surrounded by the people he holds most dear, Orlando Flores was received into heaven on Sat., Sept. 2, 2017, in Santa Rosa, CA. By his side were his loving wife Noelia Flores of La Feria, youngest child Maria Olga Scurry of McAllen, and grandsons Elias Foster (Jeremy) of Santa Rosa, California and Noah Scurry (Murphy) of McAllen.
Born on Sept. 27, 1947, in Elsa, Texas, Orlando graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1967, where he played linebacker and center on the Edcouch-Elsa football team that advanced to state playoffs. He earned All-District, All-State individual honors. Orlando received a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology with a minor in History from Pan American College in Edinburg in 1971. He coached football at Monte Alto Jr high, worked as a photographer with the Edinburg Daily Review, and was a Volunteer firefighter with the Edinburg Fire Department. He was an avid photographer, fisherman, and golfer.
For 26 years, he served as an eligibility specialist, supervisor, and trainer with the Texas Department of Human Services, providing much-needed assistance to thousands of families throughout our greater community. Orlando retired in 1997, but continued with the management of financial records for his family's business, Zamora Distributing Company in La Feria.
He is preceded in death by daughter Jessica Flores Foster of Santa Rosa, CA, son Tony Orlando Flores of La Feria, and parents Doroteo and Felicidad Flores of Monte Alto. He is survived by Noelia, Maria Olga, Elias, Noah, siblings Diana Villegas (+David), Dolores Garza (+Jose E.), Dahlia Silva, Donaldo Flores, Daniel Flores (Hilda), David Flores (Zonia), and Dorothy Cantu (Edward), mother-in-law Eudelia Zamora (+Emilio) of La Feria, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other members of the extended family.
Visitation is scheduled at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home in La Feria on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at 9:00 am - 9:00 pm rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at 10:00 am at St. Francis Xavier church burial to proceed to Restlawn Memorial Park.
