Paul Ora Engle was born August 27, 1934 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He died February 4, 2017 in Harlingen, Texas. Paul served a hitch in the U.S Navy during the Viet Nam War, returning to Grand Rapids upon his honorable discharge. He became an expert “tool and die” man and worked until his retirement for General Motors after 35 years. He is preceded in death by his son and daughter. He is survived by his brother Elmer and 3 grandchildren, of Michigan.
When Paul discovered South Texas he moved to the Rio Hondo area. He lived at River Ranch for many years. His friends soon discovered that Paul would make himself available to transport them to the airport, doctors’ appointments, or dining out occasions. An excellent game player, Paul was often found engaging in that activity. He was a member of Harlingen’s VFW where he was a regular Bingo caller. He moved to Twin Palms Park in September and lived there only briefly before his death.
The Community Church of Rio Hondo became his church home in about 2010, and he took part in all of its activities, serving a three year term on the church board and frequently ferrying donations to the San Benito food bank. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the church (P.O Box 157 Rio Hondo 78583). Memorial Service will be on February 19, 2017 at Rio Hondo Community Church 122 Mira Mar Rio Hondo, TX at 2:00 pm. Please join us to celebrate his life.
