Rosalio “Chale” Cantu, 85, of Harlingen, Texas passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, April 18, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, devotion, and unwavering love for his family. Rosalio was, above all, a provider, a hard worker through every season of life. He spent his early years laboring in the fields before teaching himself the skill of diesel mechanics-determined to build a more stable life for his family. He carried that same determination into everything he did, never shying away from responsibility and always making sure those he loved were cared for. For 65 years he was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Maria. His love for her was evident in both the big sacrifices and the smallest gestures, making sure she always had what she needed. If she liked something, he made sure there was plenty of it for her. His love was steady and deeply rooted. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather who found joy in the simple things-fishing trips, old cowboy movies, and sharing meals with those he loved. He was known for making the best barbecue, keeping sodas ready in the fridge for his grandchildren, and always having dollar bills tucked away for their piggy banks. These small acts became lasting memories that his family will carry with them forever. He had a quick wit and a sense of humor that could lighten any room. He had a way of making people feel welcome, which is why he was surrounded by many friends throughout his life. His faith in God was the foundation of who he was. He loved his Abba Father and served faithfully for many years as an usher and communion minister alongside his wife. Even in his final days, he showed remarkable strength. Though he could no longer speak, he found ways to communicate with each member of his family leaving them with moments they will cherish forever. He fought with quiet courage until the very end. 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight.”
Rosalio is survived by his wife, Maria De La Luz Cantu; four daughters, Anna Lizabeth Birge of Harlingen, Norma Patton of Missouri, Gloria Cantu and Monica Cantu both of Michigan, one son Moises Cantu of Michigan.
