Stephen Page Brewer was born in Harlingen, TX, on May 19, 1956, and peacefully passed away at home in his sleep on January 10, 2026, at the age of 69. His parents were Page and Jean Brewer, who had come down from Massachusetts to live in La Feria after Page accepted a job on the Border Patrol. Steve was the eldest and went on to have a brother, David (wife Rosie). Three sisters followed: Suzy Ronk (Brian). Lisa Durham (Galen), Laurie Kramer (Larry). He attended La Feria Schools from kindergarten to 12th grade and graduated in 1974. He went to Pan American College in Edinburg, TX, on a tennis scholarship. He married Liana Turner in February 1981. They grew up only 3 blocks apart and had attended the same grade together since first grade. In 1983, their son Weston Page was born, and the family was complete.
Steve was an avid tennis player and continued to play well into his 60s until knee replacements to both knees slowed him down. He was also a very dedicated golfer and racquetball player. He could always be found on a golf course on Sundays, where he insisted he talked to God in the Church of the Great Outdoors. He also loved to fish, although he didn’t like to eat the fish. Steve made countless friends while enjoying his many sports.
Steve started working with 3M soon after marrying and eventually went on to be self-employed in his own company—Brewer Office Systems. He sold copiers up and down the Rio Grande Valley.
Politics entered his life when middle age hit. He became a councilman in La Feria and eventually he became the mayor. He loved to help and make a difference. After moving to Harlingen in his 50’s, he served on several boards. If Steve thought he was right, he was never afraid to speak up and buck the system. He made more friends while in politics and learned so much.
Steve was always looking for new ways to keep busy so he started flipping houses. He loved taking the worst house in the neighborhood and making it the best one. He changed neighborhoods in Mercedes, Santa Rosa, La Feria, Harlingen, and San Benito. The man that had no desire for stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot became a steady customer that was often found there several times a day.
He was a very friendly, happy, and optimistic man. He always thought the glass was more than half full. He never met anyone he couldn’t talk to regardless of age, color, or language spoken. Whether he was dressed in a business suit or a paint-stained t-shirt and shorts, Steve always remained the same person…a friendly, happy, and now much smarter guy that would always make it a point to talk to you. He did not waste his 69 years of life. He believed everyone was honest and kind. He fought without fear or embarrassment for what he felt was wrong and unjust. He helped when he could and defended you when you couldn’t defend yourself.
He will be missed and remembered by many.
