Theresia was born in Trier, Germany to Peter and Barbara Benedyczuk, one of 11 brothers and sisters. The family endured difficult times during WWII, including seeing the family home destroyed by bombings to seeing the City she so loved rebuilt. She shared so many stories, including stealing flowers at night for Mother’s Day, to trading a chocolate bar from a soldier for a bag of coffee that so delighted her Mom. As times got better, the family prospered and most stayed in Trier. Theresia loved her siblings and kept up close relationships with all of them and their families.
Theresia met Don, the love of her life in Trier when he was stationed in Bitburg, Germany. They were married on March 3rd, 1956 and enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 66 years. They both traveled the world during Don’s career in the Air Force, raising three children who adored them and do so to this day.
Theresia and Don moved to Duncanville, Texas after retiring from the Air Force in 1975 and they were Texans from that point forward. Many good times and great memories were made at their lake place on Cedar Creek Lake where the family and friends would gather almost every weekend. Eventually they sold the house and lake place and RV'ed together for fifteen years. They traveled the country, taking in all the sights and spent many a wonderful summer at Blue Mesa RV Ranch outside of Gunnison, Colorado., They spent many weekends with their children Floyd, Susan, Michael and their grandchildren. It was at this point that Theresia became an Oma and she was so proud of her grandchildren, Shelby (a Deputy Public Defender) Jackson (a Security Forces Defender for the U.S. Air Force), Cody (a Mechanical Engineer) and watched them grow up to become wonderful adults. When not in Colorado they could be found back in Texas, between Lake Whitney and Dallas with their daughter Barbara and her furry kids, Duchess, Belle and Jessi, who always provided entertainment. They enjoyed wonderful times with Theresia’s sister Elsbeth and brother Pete, who visited several times. There are so many stories to tell and not enough paper to write them on!
Theresia and Don settled down at Llano Grande Resort in Mercedes, Texas and have many friends and relationships built over many Happy Hours (it’s a thing). Theresia knew everyone and was known to spin a tale or two. She was loved by everyone she met. She treasured her time there and couldn’t wait for the return of all her Winter Texan friends each fall and was sad when they left in the spring. She will be missed by her Bunco pals and the water aerobics crowd that gathered at the pool!
Theresia was a woman of many talents, she enjoyed putzing around with all her plants (a greener thumb could not be found), loved playing cards, fishing and playing her German music. She was known by all to be a great cook and made the best German Potato Salad, Rouladen, and cheesecake. She loved dogs, especially
Her grand puppies Trixi and Cooper, and seeing those that crossed the rainbow bridge including Josie, Beau, Duchess, Belle, Jessi, Cassie and Maggie.
