She attended Mercedes schools and Pan American University. Teaching was her life-long career for forty years.
Viola is survived by her husband Francisco Chavez; her children Magda Chavez and Hugo Chavez; her only sibling Jason Fernando Solis; and special joys in her life-her grandchildren Martin G. Chavez, Marisa Salinas and Gabriella Salinas.
In addition to her family, she leaves behind many special friends and colleagues who she considered dear to her heart -- her Birthday Club members; the members of Lambda Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma; her Prayer Shawl Ministry members; her sisters of P.E.O. Chapter BY; and numerous nieces and nephews far and near.
Always a teacher and a learner, Viola was eager to expand her knowledge by reading, traveling, writing, creating, quilting, developing her own special recipes, etc. Viola was a nurturing figure who served as an inspiration to so many in the community. A lifelong educator, Viola’s greatest gift was her ability to encourage others to embrace life and all that it has to offer - to find love in the simple pleasures of life. She delighted in hearing success stories from her former students, especially those who chose careers in education, giving her an affirmation of her goals in life.
