September 25, 1939 - July 10, 2024
Bill was born in Canton, Ohio and was the only child of Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd H. Werley. He
entered the sales engineering field with Parker Seal/Hannifin after graduating from Case
Institute of Technology in 1961. Some of his corporate relationships were with Boeing,
Martin-Marietta, and Los Alamos Labs. He loved his experience: traveling and utilizing his skill
set in his job with Parker but in 1966 he met the love of his life, Joanne and decided being on
the road was no longer for him.
In 1968 he transitioned and launched his 56 year career as a celebrated Financial Advisor. First
with Boettcher & Co. in Denver, Colorado, where he developed his fundamental investment
knowledge and then in 2002 he joined A.G. Edwards & Sons, which was later acquired by
Wachovia Securities, a predecessor firm of Wells Fargo Advisors. The highlight of his career
was when he teamed up with his son Bill Werley Jr. in 2002 with whom he had mentored since
Bill Jr. entered the business in 1992.
Bill Sr. loved what he did and thrived coming into the office every day, not only to work but to
help clients plan out their financial dreams. He was always happy to advise everyone he met by
sharing his passion and knowledge of the stock market to help make a difference in their life.
His real true passion was for his family. Bill was a devoted husband to wife Joanne of 57 years,
his two children Wendy and Bill Jr and his five grandchildren, Trey, Mikey, Beau, Lily and Bella.
His love and knowledge of the game of golf as a young child was shared with his wife and two
children. He built his perfect foursome starting his wife in the game just after they met, and his
children at age 3. The game of tennis came shortly thereafter where Bill Sr. was as devoted as
he was in golf to his family learning and playing these two games at his beloved Pinehurst
Country Club in Denver, where he was a member for over 25 years. Bill was also able to make
the time to take his family to Mazatlan, Mexico for 2 months every winter to hone the families
golf and tennis skills.
Bill took immense pride in his two children receiving college golf scholarships to the University of
New Mexico where he got to be part of their careers. Their opportunity to play D1 golf was
fueled by his devotion to their games as young children, by being present and giving them the
best opportunities to succeed with lessons and travel to tournaments. He knew that exposing
Wendy and Bill Jr to the game of golf would provide them a lifetime of enjoyment and an edge in
life.
The last 24 years he has been a devoted and engaged grandfather who has joyfully watched
Bill Jr and wife Lisa’s children, Trey 24, Beau 20 and Lily 18 (starting Fall ‘24) go into the field of
engineering by attending the Colorado School of Mines. He has been equally proud and excited
about Wendy and husband Mike’s children, Mikey 21 and Bella 18 (starting Fall ‘24) receiving
golf scholarships to Loyola University New Orleans.
Lastly, Bill was totally devoted to his wife Joanne and all of their special moments and years
together. Sundays were their golf days, date night on Tuesdays when the kids were growing up
and making sure to take some of their vacations alone which was part of the recipe of their
longevity as a couple.
Bill Sr. will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
In lieu of Donations or Flowers, well wishes are greatly appreciated.
