He was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin in November 1950 to Lloyd and Norma Kiekhefer Sr. who were dairy farmers. Allen graduated from the University of Wisconsin Platteville with a Bachelor of Science degree. He began his cost/scheduling construction career in January 1974 with Bechtel Engineering in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and later that year in San Francisco, California.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of more than 49 years Linda Kiekhefer, children Brenda Pottinger (Ben), Ann Goodwin (Thomas), Dean Kiekhefer (Jacquelyn), and five grandsons Cru, Otto, and Warren Kiekhefer, and Everett and Jude Goodwin. He is also survived by his siblings Joan Sharp, Lloyd Kiekhefer Jr. (Naomi), and Kathy Selchert (Ron), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Linda and Allen met while attending college and married in June 1974 in Loyal, Wisconsin. In Allen’s 43-year career in engineering construction, the couple lived in seven states. Luckily, he married someone who also loves travel and is an avid baseball fan! He retired in January 2017 with C&I Engineering, in Louisville, Kentucky. After his retirement, Allen became a school bus monitor with the Oldham County School District for five years. He also volunteered for HighPoint Charitable Services for several years.
Many in the Oldham County community remember Allen coaching and volunteering on the Little League and high school baseball fields. In the Spring of 2022, Allen managed his grandsons’ North Oldham Little League team. Linda, Allen, and family members enjoyed traveling across the country while Dean played travel, college, and professional baseball.
As a successful amateur photographer, he led a 4-H photography club which introduced his daughter Brenda to her career while she was elementary age. While attending Emory & Henry College in Virginia, she majored in Mass Communications and Art-Graphic Design which helped her start her photography business. Allen enjoyed being her second photographer at weddings for many years.
When his daughter Ann began her search for a college with an architecture major, Allen visited Louisiana Tech and encouraged her in her studies. After earning both a bachelor's and master's degrees, she later became a licensed architect in Baltimore, Maryland. They bonded over job site and project discussions.
Allen was very proud of his role as a parent and later grandparent. One of his lifelong philosophies was, “Faith, Family, and Friends;” he felt blessed up until the end of his life.
He was a lifelong member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod Church (WELS), Since 1987 he and his family have been members of Hope Lutheran Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
