Born on August 12, 1945, in Magoffin County, Barbara was the daughter of the late Dennie and Rena Helton. She was a devoted member of Good Shepard Baptist Church and was known for her love of music and deep affection for family and friends.
Barbara had a lifelong passion for music. She played the guitar from the time she was a little girl and loved singing karaoke whenever she had the chance. Her love for music and playing guitar became a gift she proudly passed down to her great-grandson, Elijah. She also had a special love for antiques and could often be found yard selling, thrifting, and searching for unique treasures.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hershel Pennington, and her eleven siblings.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Hershel Pennington II (Tracy), Brian Pennington, and Rena Pennington; her grandchildren, Ashton Pennington and Zachery Pennington; her great-grandson, Elijah Pennington; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Barbara will be remembered for her warm heart, her love of music, the joy she brought to those around her, and the musical legacy she lovingly shared with her family.
Visitation will be held at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home & Cremation Services on May 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m.
