He was born on May 27, 1937 during the 1937 flood in Clarksville, IN to the late George Washington Sr. and Edith Craigmyle. His parents lived on 18 Mile Island and water was coming up the steps, fleeing to Clarksville. Dr. John Walsh, LaGrange, KY crossed the Ohio River to bring him into the world. Dear Friend, Court Hendricks, started rocking him and sang Sonny Jim by Jiminy; giving him his lifelong nickname.
Sonny retired from Xerox after 30 years of service and was a Deacon at DeHaven Baptist Church. He was also an Air Force Veteran, serving 6 years.
He is preceded in death by his brother; George Washington Craigmyle Jr.
Left to cherish the memory of Sonny are his wife of 61 years; Susie Craigmyle, daughter; Jennifer Craigmyle, sister; Frances Fraley, extended family and friends.
A celebration of Sonny's life will be held at DeHaven Baptist Church on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 1pm with burial to follow at Valley of Rest in LaGrange, KY. Visitation will be held on Friday evening at the church from 4-8pm and Saturday before the service starting at 11am.
