
He was born to the late Fenley and LaVerne (Knight) Ward on September 22, 1942, in Jefferson County, Kentucky.
Gene was an avid sport player, but golf was his passion. If UofL was playing you can bet he was watching. Gene loved spending time with his golf buddies, and some of his favorite people called him PawPaw. He was a skilled painter until he retired.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Joy Ward; father, Feneley Ward; mother, LaVerne Warner (Ras "Jr"); and sisters, LaMonne Dunaway and Shirley Parrish.
Left to cherish the memory of Gene are his children, Toni Ward, Shannon Ward, and Tammy Scholl; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Alexis, Sierrah, Justin, Landen, Isaijah, Zakarya, Ashton, Gabryel, and Ellyanah; 7 great-grandchildren and one coming in July; sister, Pamela Ward; extended family and many friends.
A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Gene will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 11am-1pm at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange, KY 40031 with a time of sharing to start at 1pm.
In honor of Gene's love of animals and sports, memorial donations can be made to your local animal shelter or by sponsoring youth sports.
