Gary was born in Dayton, Ohio on April 6, 1939, to his parents Boyd & Mildred (Williams) Hartzell. He has a younger brother, David.
Gary graduated from Fairmont High School in 1957 and moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1959 to pursue his career with NCR (National Cash Register). He worked as a technician for NCR, working on cash registers, banking equipment and eventually computers, retiring from there over 30 years later.
In 1962 he joined the Army and was stationed in Oklahoma. After that he served in the Kentucky National Guard.
He married his wife Carol Raisle (Hartzell) in October 1962, and they had two daughters, Debbie and Kim.
Some of his favorite things to do were watching golf, fishing on the family farm and spending time with family. In the 1980’s he enjoyed serving on the La Grange Fire Department.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Boyd & Mildred Hartzell, and his wife, Carol.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Debbie Hall (Jay) and Kim Huff (Keith); Grandchildren, Hannah, Zachary (Olivia), Emily (John) and Ethan; Great-Grandchildren, Ava and Oliver; and Brother, David Hartzell (Nancy).
Visitation is Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 11:00-2:00 with a Celebration of Life to be held at 2:00 at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Oldham County.
