When I was growing up, he painted our house and barns. I always enjoyed being around him. I loved his stories of scares he had while painting high places. Hughie was one of a kind - a free spirit, a daredevil, always joking, very religious, and a decent, good man.

One thing I'll always remember about Hughie is he was good for a laugh. When he was painting Mom and Dad's farm house he asked me what color I wanted my room. I had bubble gum in my mouth and said "Huey I want it bubblegum pink". He asked for the gum in my mouth and put it in his pocket. Next day my room was the exact color of the bubblegum. I remember dad being a bit surprised and ask Hughie how he got that color. Hughie just smiled, chuckled and said "it just stuck with me".

Hugie was a wonderful friend!! He used to come by to visit us when we lived at Fibel Farms...We used to go riding our Motorcycles with him and had such a wonderful time. We also had a Motorhome and we would go out for Dinner with him and his family. Such wonderful moments !! We will sure miss him. May he RIP ...

Awww. Lived next door to Hughie on 42. First meeting with my boys: they’d snuck over into his barn and smeared silver guardrail paint all over his tractor tires. He ran em off, they came home hollering, “Mom where’s juvie? The man next door is sending us to juvie!!!” We’ve laughed about that a lot over the years.

Hughie spent many dollars on $1-rack shirts at The Affordable Shop to wear while painting. He was always good for a smile and a couple of laughs. Condolences to the family.
