

She was born on February 11, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Roy William Sr. and Jennye Smith Bullitt.
Iris loved flowers, watching Westerns on TV, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and playing Candy Crush. Above all, getting together for the holidays with family was her favorite thing! She had a special relationship with her brother-in-law Billy Thomas, who was asked by Sr. to look after her, constantly joking around with each other and he was always "driving miss Daisy!" She was Billy's Bonnie and he was her Clyde. Iris had honorary children, Becky and Robert "Mo" Mobrey and Robbie "Stephanie" Youssouf, whom she loved dearly. She had a special relationship with her two nephews, Junie and Bo, that were like brothers, whom she was raised with.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Newton Thomas Sr.; son, Elmo Newton Thomas Jr.; granddaughter, Madeline Thomas; and siblings, Lula, George, Roy Jr., Margaret, Clara, Viola, and Betty.
Left to cherish the memory of Iris are her children, Jennye "Bush" Thomas, Margie Thomas, Robert Lee Thomas (Nancy), and Joseph Ray Thomas; 5 grandchildren, DeWitt Thomas, Brittany Solomon (Aaron), DeCarlos Thomas, Whitney Thomas, and Sophia Thomas; 6 great-grandchildren, NaDeeya Thomas, Laryah Owens, Xria Thomas, Camyah Owens, Riley Solomon, Safari Thomas, Mya Solomon, and one on the way, Lorenzo Newton Solomon; sister, Barbara Jean Bullitt, sisters and brothers-in-law, James and Flo Lewis, Jenny and Billy Thomas, Patricia Mosby, Kathleen Cursh-Gray, and Rosie Thomas; a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
A celebration of Iris's life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1pm at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange, KY 40031 with the repass to follow. Visitation will be from 11am until the start of the service.
