James (Jimmy) Smith Lentz, 65, a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and poppy, finished his earthly journey on March 5, 2025. He was born to James and Patsy Lentz on October 9, 1959, in LaGrange, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Oldham County.
After graduating from Oldham County High School in 1977, he had careers in customer service and transportation before a 25-year career at Ford Motor Company, retiring in 2023.
In his free time, Jimmy enjoyed travelling, Civil War history and preservation, motorcycle riding, fishing, volunteering (including with the Westport Volunteer Fire Department where he was a fireman for several years), cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and Louisville Cardinals, playing board games, going to concerts, and target shooting. His favorite way to spend the day was always with his family (especially his grandsons), outside, and with a big glass of sweet tea - extra lemon!
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father (James Garrett Lentz), several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a son, Benjamin Bratcher.
He is survived by his wife of nearly eighteen years, Sonya Lentz of LaGrange, his mother Patsy Lentz of Peewee Valley, brother Jeff Lentz of Peewee Valley, daughter Lacy (Josh) Wagner of Brooklyn, Michigan, son Gabriel Vanover of Madison, Indiana, grandsons Mikael and Maxwell Wagner, and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at John Black Community Center, 1551 KY-393, La Grange, KY 40031 on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 1-4pm.
