

He was born to the late James Lester and Dorothy Terry (Cranior) White in Earlington, Kentucky on November 7, 1929. Jay graduated from Manual High School and proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Jay was a talented individual; he excelled at everything he did and continued to be a wealth of knowledge into his late years. He enjoyed ice skating, playing pool, and fishing - aspiring to be a Bass Master while being heavily involved in the Oldham County Bass Club. Jay owned Jay White's Coiffeurs near Plantation Shopping Center and Rolling Hills Shopping Center and Hairum, the first hair salon in Oldham County in the 1970's. He taught multiple generations of cosmetologists through his time at Dietrich Vocational and Mister John's School of Beauty. Jay valued education, going to UofL when he turned 60 to achieve his bachelor's degree. He was also an accomplished artist and craftsman throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Patricia "Pat" Carter White.
Left to cherish the memory of Jay are his children, Richard White, Barbara "Barbie" Wade (John), Martin White, David R Owens (Teresa), and Shelley Owens; grandchildren, David "Riley" Owens II (Crystal), Joanie White, Rachael Owens (Melissa), Caitlin Nash, and Samuel "Rhys" Owens; 7 great-grandchildren, sister, Nancy Skillman, extended family, and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held for Jay at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange, Kentucky 40031, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 3-7:30 with a time of sharing at 7:30.
Memorial donations can be made in Jay's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or your local Humane Society.
