Dick was a man who loved deeply, lived with purpose, and treasured family above all else. He was a faithful member and longtime Deacon at Simpsonville Christian Church, a proud Freemason, and dedicated his career to Business Development of Kentucky, where he helped bring business to the Commonwealth and traveled to every state except Hawaii.
He had a lifelong passion for horse racing, the Kentucky Derby, history, and tradition. Having attended the Derby for more than 50 years and as a founding member of the Kentucky Derby Museum, Derby week wasn't just an event, it was a cherished family tradition that he passed on to his daughters. One of his favorite annual traditions was celebrating his AA birthday with his daughter, Becky, on the Thursday before the Derby.
He found joy in sharing stories, collecting watches, clocks, and canes, and passing down the traditions that meant so much to him. He left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
More than anything, he loved his daughters. Though he endured the heartbreaking loss of his beloved daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Faye McLaren, the love he had for his family never wavered. Those who knew him are incredibly grateful for the memories, the lessons, the laughter, and the unwavering love he gave them throughout their lives.
He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Dixon (Tim Koehler); son-in-law, Jim McLaren; grandsons Brandon McLaren (Kayleigh) and Tyler Felts; two great-granddaughters; along with extended family and many dear friends.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:30am at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange with a time of gathering starting at 10:30am until the start of the service. A meal will immediately follow the service before the graveside service at Valley of Rest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Simpsonville Christian Church.
While our hearts ache, we find comfort knowing his legacy lives on through the traditions he passed down, the stories we'll continue to tell, and the love he shared so generously.
Rest peacefully. You will always be loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
