He was born to the late Jesse Sr. and Rachel Annabine (Yager) Dixon on November 10, 1939, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dick was a member at Simpsonville Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was also a Freemason. Dick worked for Business Development of Kentucky, bringing business to the Commonwealth. Through his years of building commerce relationships, he got to travel to every state but Hawaii, including all of their capitols.
Having attended the Derby for over 50 years, he was an enthusiast, sharing the tradition and love with his daughters, it was a holiday in their house. He was a founding member of the Kentucky Derby Museum. A special moment of love each year was when his daughter, Becky, would attend his AA birthday meeting with him on the Thursday evening before Derby.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Faye McLaren.
Left to cherish the memory of Dick are his daughter, Rachel Dixon (Tim Koehler); grandsons, Brandon McLaren (Kayleigh) and Tyler Felts; 2 great-granddaughters; extended family, and friends.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:30am at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange with a time of gathering starting at 10:30am until the start of the service. A meal will be immediately following the service before burial at Valley of Rest Cemetery.
