She was born on August 8, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Wilford and Lorraine (Gallagher) Schumacher.
A devoted member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Joan also contributed her time to the Oldham County Republican Women’s Club. She found joy in playing card games, tackling her daily Wordle, and, most of all, spending time with her loved ones. Joan especially cherished attending church, hosting family holiday gatherings, shopping with her daughters, and celebrating birthdays.
Joan will be lovingly remembered for her deep faith, her unwavering positivity, and her ability to make everyone around her feel valued and special.
Joan is survived by her husband, Ronald F. Wachter; daughters, Michelle Cave (Emil) and Susan Gregory (Tom); grandchildren, Ronald Wallace (Raine), Michael Hart (Danielle), Mason Gregory, and Emma Gregory; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Hart, Delilah Hart, and Russell Wallace; her sister, Janis Brule; and many extended family members and friends.
A Mass in Joan’s honor will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, with a gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. A private burial will follow at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, Kentucky.
