She was born in Bonyhad, Hungary as the oldest of six children. Together the family worked their farm, and with her being the oldest, she helped raise her younger siblings. During World War II, she escaped the approaching war front, where she shortly thereafter met her husband Reese Owen Crick, a U.S. soldier stationed in Germany. Reese courted her for a few years until she relented and agreed to join him on a date. The two fell in love, and as the war wrapped up, she returned with him to his homeland in America, where they raised their three children, Lloyd, Julia, and Eva.
Katharina became a widow at the age of 38 when Reese passed away, and she raised her three young children as a single parent. She was a long time member of Highland Church of Christ in Louisville, and touched the lives of hundreds if not thousands of friends throughout the community. In her later years, she moved to LaGrange, Kentucky, where she ultimately became known as the “Hungarian Fox” by those who knew and loved her dearly. She was a follower of Christ and selfless servant to others, and ultimately attended Southeast Christian Church.
Katharina is preceded in death by her husband Reese Owen Crick, parents, Konrad and Elizabeth Kun Steitz, her siblings Konrad, Hanz, Audie, Jacob, and Elizabeth, her grandparents, sons in law Don Allen and Bill Pace, and daughter in law Frances Crick. She is survived by her son Lloyd Hans Crick, daughters Julia Crick Allen, and Eva Crick Pace, along with eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and her nieces and nephews who remain in Germany, all of whom are grateful for the blessing of having Katharina in their lives.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 28 at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home in LaGrange, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 27.
