Landy G Prieto

LANDY G. PRIETO, age 84, entered eternal life on January 24, 2023. She was a wife, daughter, sister, aunt “tia”, colleague, friend to many, and her greatest pride and joy was being a mother and grandmother “Abuela”. Landy loved meeting new people and those who knew her would tell you that at she never met a stranger. She was also an avid Louisville Cardinals fan.

A native of Yaguajay, Las Villas, Cuba, she graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration from Havana Business University in 1960 and arrived in the U.S. in April 1962. She was a Cuban by birth, but a proud U.S. citizen by choice.

Landy started her professional career in 1962 at Bowman Inc. in Cleveland, OH as Assistant to Export/Import Manager. She moved to Louisville, KY in 1963 and one year later began a 36-year career with Corning International, Corhart Refractories, and St. Gobain Industrial Ceramics. She held several positions in the international division, including Sales Manager for Latin America from 1982 until her retirement in 2000.

Landy was twice appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce as Chairperson for the KY District Export Council. In that role she worked with the local chamber of commerce, SBA, and UofL International Department to teach small companies how to enter the export business. For many years she was an active volunteer with KY/IN Junior Achievement. After retirement she enjoyed spending many winters in Florida. In 2006 she moved from Louisville to Livingston, NJ, where she volunteered at St. Philomena Catholic Church School teaching introduction to Spanish to the Kindergarten class. She moved back to Louisville in 2017.

Landy was a devout Catholic whose faith guided her through life. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary in Louisville and St. James in Elizabethtown.

Landy was preceded in death by her father Juan L. Gonzalez, mother Eliodora Gonzalez “Mima”, husband Roberto Prieto, beloved son Alfred Prieto, daughter-in-law Danielle Iovine-Prieto, grandson Antonio Prieto, sister Gisela Chirichigno, and other siblings and close relatives. She is survived by her grandsons Alec and Roberto Prieto, nephew Claudio Monzon, with whom she lived for a while, and several beloved nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary in Louisville on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 1pm with burial to follow at Valley of Rest Cemetery in LaGrange.
