She was born to the late Leon Eugene and Mary Nina Arnold (Payne) on July 9th, 1937 in Meade County, Kentucky.
She was passionate about crocheting and making baby blankets for her grandchildren. You would often find her in her vegetable garden, or canning blackberry jam. Mary was also an amazing cook, making chocolate fudge for Christmas, hummingbird cake, zucchini bread, cornbread, mashed potatoes, or any special requests made by family or friends.
For over 16 years, Mary was a greeter at the local La Grange Walmart.
Mary is preceded in death by her siblings; Betty Ann Allen (Darold), Bonnie Russellburg, Bobby Arnold (Joyce), her daughter-in-law, Denise Hayes wife of Kenny Hayes, her son-in-law; Jim McClellan husband of Barbara McClellan, her sisters-in-law; Mary Philpott and Nina Justice, and their close friends of 59 years; Don and Doris Adams.
Left to cherish the memory of Mary is her husband of 70 years; Virgil Hayes, her daughters; Barbara McClellan and Patsy Latin (Ron), her son; Kenny Hayes, her grandchildren; Jason Hayes, Stacey Crabtree (Gary), Aaron Hayes, Tara Durbin (Nick), Chad Latin, Heather Wells (Dani), Kay Hayes (Carson), Kali Hoskins (Miles), her great-grandchildren; Amaranta Hayes, Arden Hayes, Brandon Latin (Chasitee), Camden Latin (Bailey), Copelin Hayes, Kinsley Hayes, Kylie Durbin, Connor Durbin, her great-great grandchildren; Hayden Latin, Elliemae Lawson, Teagan Latin, Laynee Latin, Everson Latin, her siblings; Jimmy Arnold (Janet), Larry Arnold (Debbie), Jody Arnold (Joy), her grade-school best-friend; Robin Woosley, and many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 9th, 2026 from10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm.
