Bob was well known for his passions. He was a fervent Texas A&M athletics fan, often traveling hundreds of miles to attend football or baseball games to root on the Aggies. Bob was also passionate about being of service as he was a strong proponent for the economic development of Oldham County and the advancement of technology centers that could provide a huge tax windfall for the community he loved so much.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Noel Popeck of Crestwood KY, his daughters Meredith and Mallory of LaGrange KY, goddaughter Andie Harrgis, bonus children Ava and Aiden Schmetzer of Louisville, KY, and his Brother Kevin William Popeck of Clarksville, IN.
Bob was the son of Bob (Robert) from Batavia, IL & Cindy Popeck from Ridgecrest, CA. After graduating from Banning High School in Banning, California, Bob attended California State University, Fullerton. Bob began working in operations management after college and was essential in the implementation of countless successful projects throughout his career but his true passion was coaching. In 1981 Bob began a football coaching career that would span more than 30 years. Bob loved the players he coached and often referred to them as his sons and he reveled in their successes much the same way a father would. His stories of championship games and dramatic touchdown drives would inevitably end with a postscript inclusion about the outside linebacker’s new business venture or how the offensive tackle became an FBI agent. Bob was so incredibly proud of his boys, each and every one.
Bob’s work in the field of technology included a position with Sprint and a marriage to Hollyanna Popeck who gave him his two beautiful daughters, Meredith and Mallory. Holly passed away from cancer December 24th, 2014.
On June 11, 2020 he met a beautiful woman named Sarah Noel Schmetzer and the two fell in love and were married on August 29th, 2025. Sarah and Bob made the most of their time together, creating more memories in those six years than many couples do across a span of many decades.
Bob was a man of faith and a member of Southeast Christian Church where Sarah baptized him in November 2024. Bob was involved in men’s meetings through the church where he worked with others to strengthen their relationship with God.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Holly Popeck, and his parents Bob and Cindy Popeck.
