Sally Jo (Stroup) Durbin, age 77, passed away on June 21, 2026. She was born on August 6, 1948, in Sterling, Illinois, to the late Donald Lee Stroup and Phyllis Mae (Shannon) Stroup. In December 1970, she married Daniel Bennette Durbin, her husband of 48 years, who preceded her in death in March 2019.
A graduate of Canton High School and Bellarmine College, where she earned a degree in computer science, Sally was an entrepreneur alongside her husband. Together they owned multiple Shell gas stations in Louisville, a daycare in Jeffersontown, and a software company. Hardworking throughout her life, she also worked over the years as a bank teller, a secretary at LaGrange Elementary and her church, and as a medical transcriptionist.
Sally was a devoted member of LaGrange United Methodist Church, which later became Covenant, where she sang in the choir for decades. Her faith was an important part of her life. She enjoyed reading, singing, tending their large yard, gardening, canning, and creating crafts, and she found deep meaning in serving and volunteering to help others. A skilled organist, she played beautifully though rarely publicly. She was also known for her chocolate meringue pie, which her family agreed was the best around.
Above all, Sally was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life was marked by faith, generosity, and quiet hard work. She gave freely of herself to her family, her church, and her community, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sally is survived by her son, Brian Daniel Durbin (Melissa); her siblings, Gary Stroup, Julee Stroup, and Melissa Brown (Barclay); her grandchildren, Catherine Gilbert (Carter), Elisabeth, Matthew (Zoe), Adam, Daniel, Joshua, and Genevieve; and her great-grandchildren, Sage and Luca.
Visitation will be held at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 W. Jefferson St., LaGrange, KY, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Friday, July 3, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Cemetery in Sunfish, KY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory at alz.org.
