Virgil Thomas Gowin

Virgil Thomas Gowin was born on September 9th, 1942, to the late Virgil and Alberta Gowin of LaGrange.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Lavern Brady. He is survived by his wife of 55 years the former Lucy Floyd, of New Castle, Kentucky. Together they raised two children, a son Thomas Kent Gowin who shares his life with partner Kara Kinniry and daughter Katherine Tandy Badgett (David). Tom was a proud grandfather to three beautiful grandchildren Sam Gowin, Libby Badgett and Will Badgett; they all brought immense joy to his life. His sister Pat Moore and Ruby Coomes also survive him, remembering him as a kind, supportive brother.

Tom graduated from Oldham County High School in 1960 where he played basketball. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a major in biology. He retired from a career with BASF corporation as a regional sales manager. His career led him and Lucy to homes in Indiana, Ohio and Illinois. Lifelong friends were made in those places.

His pastimes were golf, fishing and singing in a group with “The Mystics” in his retirement years. His passion was working the land, whether tending to a friend's farm or gardening with Lucy. He loved all things farming and was happiest when cultivating and planting. While under Hospice care, he still insisted that he could get out of bed and show Lucy the “correct” way to plant the small backyard garden.

Tom had a special bond with his many, many rescued dogs over the years. He would probably name Otis, and of course Gus, who enjoyed McDonald's breakfast.

The family extends deepest gratitude to his skilled doctors and nurses who cared for him, also to Hospice for their compassionate assistance.

Tom chose cremation, and a remembrance service will be June 20th. Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 followed by services at 1:00. Heady-Radcliffe is in charge of arrangements.
