Walter was a graduate of Calvert Hall College High School and Loyola University Maryland. He was retired from Humana.
He attended Immaculate Conception Church in LaGrange and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Walt loved the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Ravens, the Louisville Cardinals, Christmas, flowers, music, trips to Ocean City, Maryland, and his Catholic faith. But most of all he loved his family and friends, who could always count on him for a smile, laughter, a funny story, and his unfailing kindness to everyone he met.
For 53 years he formed an inseparable bond and team with his beloved wife Colleen (Davis) Mattheu, who raised their two sons in a household filled with love.
In addition to his wife Colleen, Walt is survived by his sons Walter “Ty” Mattheu Jr. (Kendra) and Robert Mattheu (Karen). He also leaves behind devoted sisters Lucille Stitt and Madeline Mattheu, and his three beloved grandchildren, McKenzie, Tyler, and Madeline.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Raymond and Marie (Schenning) Mattheu, his brother Henry Mattheu, and his sisters Anna Bratton, Elizabeth Giordano, and Frances Suarez-Murias.
Visitation will be from 9 am to 11 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Friday, July 27, 2018, with a Funeral Mass immediately following at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Immaculate Conception Church in his name.
