She was born on April 30, 1981, to Marshall and Linda (Brown) Hollis in Ripley, Mississippi.
On April 1, 2013, Wendi and Dan married in Oxford, MS surrounded by their children.
Wendi got her nursing degree from the University of Southern Alabama and enjoyed being an Emergency Room Nurse in both Mobile, AL and Oxford, MS. Nursing and mothering were deeply embedded in her DNA. Although her health limited her professionally, she found the reserve upon moving to La Grange, KY to volunteer her talents at the Hope Health Clinic.
In the early 2020’s, Wendi served as a Youth Precinct Officer for the Oldham County GOP as another way to positively influence her community.
Wendi had a deep-rooted faith and had a heart for God as demonstrated through her desire to worship, her passionate prayer life, her love for Christian music, and edification of her children. She loved nature and cherished the beauty of life in God's Creation.
She adopted and rehabilitated strays or nursed needy animals back to health on several occasions (cats, dogs, and birds). Having midlife baby urges, Wendi decided to foster baby kittens with the Oldham County Humane Society. Wendi had a love of flowers, even the ones that needed extra care to get them back to their full bloom.
Wendi loved her husband Dan…so much so that she took on being a stepmother to his four youngest children while struggling with severely poor health. Her greatest passion was caring for and doting on her children – they were the pride and joy of her life. Wendi always found a way to provide for her children and engaged them in as many activities as she possibly could (church, scouts, sports, and activities with friends and family).
Simply put, Wendi’s life can be summed up in two words – Wendi LOVED! The impact of her life and legacy, however, far exceeds anything she would’ve imagined.
She was preceded in death by her stepson, Noah Somers; mother-in-law, Patricia Somers; and nephew, Austin Lumpkins.
Left to cherish the memory of Wendi are her children Lauren Schipper, Haley Schipper, Oliver Somers, and step-children Ivan Somers, Ethan Somers, Elijah Somers, Mason Somers, and Corinna Somers; husband, Daniel Somers; father, Marshall Hollis (Kim); mother, Linda Gail Patterson (Danny); siblings, Amy Wells (Kenny), Julie Wigginton (Joseph), Casey Hollis, Megan Null (Caleb), Ryan Hollis (Cristhian), and Nathan Hollis; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A celebration of Wendi's life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11am at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange, KY with burial to follow in Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, KY. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4-8pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Women's Shelter or the Humane Society of Oldham County.
