Alex was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia on April 15, 1951, to Jiri Gregor and Milada Ulehlova. When Alex was a mere lad of 16, he ran away from Prague to Sweden because of all the unrest & communist uprising in his hometown of Prague. It was in Sweden that Alex worked any job he could find, including sweeping streets, to earn money so he could advance his education. His goal was to always improve his knowledge, occupation and become a US citizen. During his career, he maneuvered and escalated his way through the IBM Systems both in Sweden and the USA. Following much persistence and determination, Alex was employed by IBM USA in 1993 where he continued working with passion & enthusiasm until his untimely death. Unbeknownst to Alex, the IBM secretary, his future wife, was the typist of the letter of recommendation for Alex’s assignment to IBM US.
Alex married the love of his life, Nancy Tomich, May 26, 1996. Their union was performed in a hot air balloon hovering above the vineyards of the California Nampa Valley.
Another highlight for Alex was being presented his US citizenship March 10, 2000. He was so proud to be an American.
Alex is survived by his wife Nancy; sister-in-law, Kathy Smith & brother-in-law Kendall Tomich, both of Boise Idaho; Nephews, Michael Scales & family of Las Vegas, NV; Steve Calson & family of Lake Tapps, WA; one aunt and many cousins of Hollywood FL.
This legendary, extraordinary man lived his life always looking forward, never back. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
